NCSHA Marks 50 Years of Affordable Housing Impact
On this day in 1974, the Council of State Housing Agencies was incorporated in Washington, DC, “to promote the common interests of state housing finance and development agencies in public policies and programs for meeting the housing and related needs of low-, moderate-, and middle-income persons.”
The organization was formed by the leaders of the 27 state HFAs in existence at the time, with the counsel of Lane and Edson, PC. In June 1987, National was added to the name to reflect the growth of state HFAs into a nationwide network.
Today, the National Council of State Housing Agencies proudly represents the 54 state HFAs — and 350+ of their partners — who play a central role in the nation’s affordable housing system, financing the purchase, development, and rehabilitation of hundreds of thousands of affordable homes and rental apartments every year.
Thanks to five decades of highly engaged HFA volunteer leadership and a dedicated professional staff, NCSHA has earned the trust and respect of elected officials from both parties in Washington and organizations throughout our industry.
We pause today to honor all of NCSHA’s members for working tirelessly every day toward the realization of our shared vision: an affordably housed nation.
Thank you for being a part of NCSHA’s story — a story we look forward to commemorating more in the months ahead.
